Frequently Asked Questions

What companies do your clients come from?

Companies from all over the world. Our clients range from 25 to 65 and from technicians to consultants and judges to ranchers. There is always a lively group with a common need for professional English skills.

What's the best way to travel to Cambridge?

Stansted airport is 40 minutes away by bus. Gatwick and Heathrow are about two hours away. London's King's Cross station is 45 minutes away by train and has a direct connection to London City Airport. There's a motorway direct to Dover and a good road to Harwich.

Can you meet me at the airport?

Yes. We can send you a taxi. The driver will meet you off the plane. Prices for taxi transfers from London Stansted, Heathrow and Gatwick are on the enrolment form.

Are all meals included in the accommodation fee?

No. You'll have to buy your lunch yourself. The Academy canteen does a good lunch for under £4, and there are two pubs serving hot and cold lunches just along the road.

Is there an entry exam?

No. But the English with Confidence group course isn't suitable for beginners. We will do a needs analysis on the first day to find out what you expect of the course and how we can best help you.

Can I do an internationally recognised exam?

Yes. We can arrange for you to take TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication) at the end of your course. You can practise for this while you are here.

How can I be sure the course is what I need?

We have developed English with Confidence as a response to what our clients have told us they need. We continually monitor response to the course and there is a very high level of satisfaction.

How long should I stay?

It is up to you. Most people stay for two to three weeks. If you can stay for only one week, don't forget you can combine the course with some one-to-one lessons.

What sports facilities are there?

Cambridge is well provided with sports facilities. There are public tennis courts and two indoor swimming pools. There is a golf course very close to the Academy and you will have free entry to the local fitness centre.

Can I bring my family?

Yes. If you come in the summer we can provide courses for father, mother and all the children over the age of nine. Visit the Academy web-site for more information.

Are you open all year?

We are open 50 weeks of the year. We close for two weeks around Christmas time.

What can I do at weekends?

We organise excursions every weekend, and you can buy train tickets for London from our social activity organiser. Our facilities are open all weekend, so you can study if you like. We have a library of films with subtitles, and hot drinks are available free.

Do I need to rent a car?

No, but with a car you can explore the surrounding area and take trips to the coast. It's not a good idea to take a car into London - the traffic is terrible, and parking is very difficult. The same is true of Cambridge City Centre.
